We're used to seeing them in bunches in ourliving rooms.

But this rainbow runway of chrysanthemumsshows off the flowers in their full glory before they’re picked in Shanghai, eastChina.

The bright and beautiful flowers – popularin bouquets around the world – are grown in their thousands in fields in the far east.

Chrysanthemums were first cultivated in Chinaas a flowering herb as far back as the 15th Century BC and the plant is renowned in Chineseart.

And the humble chrysanthemum was also adoptedby the Emperor of Japan after it was brought to the country in the eighth century AD.

As well as being decorative, the flowers arealso used as a sweet drink in some parts of Asian and can even be used to flavour ricewine.
