Have you heard about Biznik?

Everyone knows about LinkedIn but the two business networking services are completely different. LinkedIn is more of a place for corporate executives to connect with their buddies and when they get fired they have somewhere to go .

Biznik is for independent business owners and there are also networking events that members can attend [most are free].

Biznik was started up in Seattle [most of the events are in the west] by Dan McComb and Lara Eve Feltin. You can check out their blog here: http://blog.biznik.com.

Biznik is free but there are 2 paid membership levels. I'm in the highest level paying $24 a month. Yeah, it's worth it. I have like 600 backlinks from their site to my website plus I meet some people there that hired me to search engine optimize their website.

Check them out,

Biznik is a cool tool that can be used along with other things in business marketing portfolio. However, I should point out that most, if not all, of the people that attend those events are either self employed or own a small business which makes it a bit difficult to do a business to consumer marketing. It works well though for business to business marketing. Got a product or service that is directed at small business owners or self employed people? Biznik is perfect for that.

To be fair I should say that on some level business to consumer marketing does work at Biznik events because even self employed people are consumers themselves but they are a special type of consumers. Before anything else they are there mainly to sell themselves and not necessarily to buy anything.

Yes I agree - It's a great place, but i'm not sure if it's what I really need. www.MyShopPass.com is for business to consumer / consumer to consumer. It's new and we're packing it in with some great features...

Arrow But... - 11/29/08, 05:01 PM

LOL, but each Biznik member is just as much a consumer as a business owner.

Plus, there is a possibility of partnering with others...

I don't know about you but for me... Biznik helps we with Google Pagerank. I found one client for my SEO services from Biznik.
I don't think Biznik is as popular in your state as in Washington but networking events are great places to get the word out.

Networking is great -

I need to understand more on SEO..I have the best search engine rankings for the shhet metal industry that one could hope for with a lot of back directory results as well as forums etc...but this all came naturally - we really didn't work it on our own..the content from the industry made it what it is. I do know where to and how to tweek the pages to get the most of the search results. The words are not to obtrusive yet they are there for "search"

Do you reccomend any good books on seo...

Hey Bud,

Sorry for the delay in response.

I don't have any books for you but a great site is: SEO Chat
Also, since it's all about google: Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

[Google is the only expert that we should care about for now]

Good luck,

I understand what you're sayiny..but to me it's more then just pagerank and links all over the pace. There is not much going on for our area here and I question whether or not the monthly dues will be worth it just for the links because besides the links there is not much going on there that one woulod have to pay for?

From my point of view, LinkedIN is a very good social networking site - i am not a corporate executive. I've got a few contracts from my connections there. In the last year it started to get more and more less friendly with too many people trying to buy and sell and with very a aggressive approach.
Another network that I like is XING, it is mostly for Europe and is total different from the North American ones.

I hear you... The funny thing is that I downgraded my Biznik membership just last week. Yeah, XING is a pretty cool service.
