DIY Felt Flowers – No Sew Fabric Flower Tutorial

Posted on

Hi, I'm Clara from Online Fabric Store.

Felt is an ideal fabric for making fabric flowers because it doesn't fray and it's thick enough to create volume and shape.

So let's get started.

The materials you'll need are: polyester or wool felt, a hot glue gun, thin cardboard, scissors, and a ruler.

First, I'm going to make templates for 3 sizes of petals.

Cut out 1 and 1/2, 1 and 1/4, and 1 inch squares.

For the largest size, pick a corner and measure 5/8 of an inch on both sides.

Connect the marks.

Do the same for the medium square, measuring 1/2 an inch from the corner.

And finally, measure 3/8 of an inch for the smallest one.

Use a coin or spool of thread to round off the corners on both sides of the line.

This creates a petal shape.

Cut out the petal templates.

I'm using 3 different shades of felt for the petals.

Place the largest petal on the darkest shade of felt and cut around it.

Make 8 petals from each size template.

Next, fold in the sides of the petals so they meet at the bottom.

Place a dab of hot glue under the edges to hold them in place.

Repeat this for all the petals.

Cut out a circle of felt that's about 2 inches across.

Place the largest petals around the circle so that they are evenly spaced.

Glue down each one.

Then, create a smaller ring with the medium petals so that they are staggered between the large petals, and glue them in place.

Repeat for the small petals.

To make the center of the flower, take the felt color used for the small petals, and cut out a strip that's about 4 inches long and 3/4 of an inch wide.

Cut another strip that's the same size of the lightest color.

Fold the strips in half and make small snips down the edge.

Using the light colored strip, make a spiral, gluing as you go, until it's about 3/4 of an inch wide.

Then take the other color, wrap it around once, and glue.

Glue this piece to the center, and the flower is done.

These felt flowers make great broaches, bouquets, or embellishments for headbands, bags, pillows, wreaths, and much more.

You can experiment with different variations like color, size, and petal shape to make them your own.

Thanks for watching this OFS project.
