Hi! I'm Jeff with Home Repair Tutor.
And inthis video, I'm going to share with you how to edge a mulch bed or flower bed like thisone here and get it to look awesome, just get that perfect line.
And this will helpprevent grass from growing into the mulch or flower bed.
So let's get to it.
I've gota lot of great tips I'm excited to share them with you.
As you can see here, I've got a huge mulchbed to edge out.
But before I do anything, I make sure to call the appropriate utilitycompanies so that I didn't dig in to any cable or TV, electrical, water, gas or sewer lines.
And double check to make sure you that do not have any drainage pipes that you're goingto dig into or electric dog fences.
It's super important.
Now, I'm using a half-moon edger like thisone here and this is brand new.
So, what I did was I filed down edge to make it supersharp.
You're going to want to do this because this will make your project, your edging project,go so much smoother.
You can outline the mulch or flower bed using a garden hose like I didhere.
Or you can opt to spray paint just from the inside portion between the flower or mulchbed in the grass.
Oh, and mark any drainage pipes with spray paint.
Now, dig straight down at a 90° angle usingyour edger and then go at maybe 35° or 45° angle and carve out more of the flower bedor the mulch bed.
And you can backtang.
So, again, you go straight down at a 90° angle.
That's going to make sure that no grass grows into the mulch or flower bed.
And cut backin like I did there and pull out a pie slice and throw that into the bucket.
Now, the best day to do this is on a day afterit rained because the soil is nice and soft.
And take any grass that you cut out and youcan replant it.
So, again, straight down at a 90° angle and then make a check mark butback-cutting with the edger and then you can tamp either with the edger or with your handto make that a nice area mulch.
When you're all done with your project, filedown the edger again.
And then spray down with WD-40 and use a piece of steel wool toclean it off.
This is going to preserve the edger for the next time that you have to edgea mulch or flower bed.
Just keeping that sharp edge is so important.
It's going to help thisproject go a lot smoother for you.
And hopefully, you'll get an awesome looking flower or mulchbed like I have here.
That's how you do it! That's how you edgea mulch bed or a flower bed.
Remember two hot tips are these: Don't dig in to a utilityline.
So make sure you're not doing that.
Number two, keep the edger nice and sharp.
