Default Culturally Indians favor strong parent children ties - 12/04/08, 09:19 PM

Marketing is considered as old as the world itself. Wherever there was humankind, there has been some form of marketing. The complexity of marketing we see nowadays arose due to the complexity of human life itself. The market place has expanded with more and more products and services vying with one another to grab the attention of potential customers.

Some products and services are tougher to market than others are. The key is if the product or service offered is beneficial it will succeed irrespective of any failures in marketing strategies. In such instances, the strategy is to educate the public about the product or services proffered and trust the survival instincts to do the rest.

There is anthropological aspect too that is often considered. There are regional disparities in welcoming or rejecting a particular service and product. Cultural, local likes and dislikes all have great impact. Certain services and products are accepted or welcomed more heartily than others

Many things a western mind will accept that will be out rightly rejected by a more conservative Indian. For example, culturally Indians favor strong parent children ties even late into their old age, where as the western concept of independence and self-dependence drives children away from the parental home at a very young age.

However though the family ties remain strong the average Indian has sufficient western exposure to change his mindset about a number of matters. The increasing number of young adults leaving their ancestral homes and pursuing high flying careers and later returning to settle in an ultra modern home in one of the Indian cities is self explanatory.

Most often a good part of the saving is spend on a modern flat or apartment and the rest is divided among the growing children to settle them in their lives. Very often, people wish they could mortgage part of their equity to meet unexpected expenses due to health or other reasons.

Reverse mortgage is a viable option these days in India. This is ideal because irrespective of the tenure of the mortgage the borrower and spouse and live in the house their have mortgaged for the rest of their remaining life. This ensures your home stays with you for the rest of your life while it takes care of your financial needs.

Invest wisely in Real estate Cochin to benefit from higher return on mortgage or possible future sale.

We westerners have a lot to learn from Indians regarding family ties. Hopefully your young people will not adopt the entire "independence" philosophy, but will create interdependence with parents and family. That's what I'm working on in my family.
